Hastings & St Leonards Heritage

Old Hastings Preservation Society was founded in 1952 to promote the permanent preservation of buildings of beauty/historic interest, especially in Hastings & St. Leonards and foster an appreciation of the history of Hastings. We encourage and record research which supports our objectives. Good architecture, design and town planning is encouraged. In 1956 we founded the Hastings Fishermen’s Museum open daily in Rock-a-Nore Road and more recently Hastings History House.

About OHPS

Hastings & St Leonards Preservation
The Society seeks: To promote the permanent preservation, for the benefit of the Nation, of buildings of beauty or historic interest, and in particular, such buildings in the Borough of Hastings & St Leonards. To foster an appreciation of the history of the town of Hastings and to preserve evidence of that history. To encourage and undertake recording and research which supports our objective. To oppose any inappropriate developments that are likely to destroy the artistic or historic amenities of the town. To encourage good architecture, design and planning in the Old Town and other conservator areas. Toensure the Fishermen's Museum continues to provide interpretation of this important local industry and to preserve and add to its collection. To achieve these aims we take an active interest in planning issues by opposing inappropriate developments and encourage good architectural design.
